1715 FOOTBALL: Inverness have signed Frenchman Claude Gnakpa, a winger who can also operate in defence, on a short-term deal from Walsall until the end of the season. Manager Terry Butcher told the club's official website: "I have been tracking Claude for a good number of years, but never managed to get him. He's big, strong and pacy and can score goals, so he will be a very exciting asset to the club."

The Treviso forward was cited for an alleged stamp on Saracens number eight Jackson Wray during his club's Heineken Cup defeat to the Aviva Premiership champions last weekend, and pleaded guilty to the charge.

1034 RUGBY UNION: The South African Rugby Union has confirmed Heyneke Meyer as the new coach of the Springboks on a four-year contract. The 44-year-old Meyer takes over from Pieter de Villiers, who coached the Springboks to the quarter-finals of last year's World Cup. Meyer, making his third bid for the national job, says: "I know the importance of rugby in the South African psyche and will do everything in my power to ensure the Springboks remain amongst the pace setters of world rugby.''
